We offer stiff drinks, a Happy Hour (actually 2 hours), hot bartenders, a pool table, pinball, electronic darts, video games, an outdoor patio, no attitude and there's never a cover charge! Bar History Co-owners Walter Schneider and B. M. Alexander (Alex) first opened the doors to the Roosterfish on May 29th, 1979. Though Alex died in 1988, Walter still owns and operates the Roosterfish more than 25 years since it was founded making it one of the oldest gay bars in the country under the same continuous ownership at the same location. Long-time bartenders like Donald (Dearest) and Gary are always quick with a drink and even faster with a snappy retort and the newest bartenders Gaetano (GAYtina), Nathan (Flirty Gerty), Fred (Wilma) and the ever HOT! bar back, Rodrigo are as friendly as they are fun to look at. Of course, there's the sexy baby-faced, bear doorman, Michael and rest of the doormen who'll make sure you're greeted properly and don't have to wait to get in. Don't miss the $3.00 Cuervo Gold Margaritas all day Wednesday and Dennis & Terry's famous burgers and 1/4 lb dogs for just $3.00 on Sunday afternoons -- You can't beat our meat! The patrons are friendly and include both regulars (Platinum Club Members as they're called) and visiting beach hotties checking out the only gay bar in Venice. When you drop in, come up to a few of the regulars and say hello. They'll have you in stitches with their jokes and quips. Ashli (the reigning queen of the bar), David (Nurse Ratchet), Jerome, the lovely Miss Nadine, Harold (Gloria Hole), Billy and Joseph, Dennis and Terry, yours truly Ken (Common Veranda) and a whole host of others don't bite unless... you ask us too. We even have our own theme song, entitled "At the Roosterfish." Written by former Roosterfish regular and Life-Time Platinum Club member, Ms. "Loretta June" Smitherman, now of the Palm Springs Smitermans, the song is performed to the tune of "Putting on the Ritz." Follow the link to for the lyrics or better yet, sing along if you can hear the midi music playing in the background. - Roosterfish |
